As Easter approaches, many people hear terms like Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday—but what do they really mean? These four days are part of the Christian calendar’s most sacred week, known as Holy Week, which commemorates the final days of Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

Let’s explore the meaning and significance of each day.

🌿 Good Friday

What it is:
Good Friday is the day Christians remember the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. On Good Friday, Jesus willingly went to the cross and died to take away the sins of the world.

Why it’s called “Good”:
The crucifixion was a dark and painful event however Christians call it ‘Good’ because Jesus chose to give His life. By doing this He was offering salvation, forgiveness, and hope to all of humanity.

How Christians commemorate this day:

• Church services focused on the suffering and death of Jesus
• Moments of silence and reflection
• Fasting or acts of repentance

🌑 Holy Saturday

What it is:
Holy Saturday is the day Jesus’ body lay in the tomb. It is a quiet and solemn day, representing a time of waiting and mourning.

How Christians commemorate this day:

• Reflection and prayer
• Preparation for Easter celebrations
• The Easter Vigil service is held after sunset to welcome to resurrection

✝️ Easter Sunday

What it is:
Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Without a doubt, Easter Sunday stands as the most significant day in the Christian faith, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Why it matters:
Jesus’ resurrection shows His victory over death and sin. It brings the promise of eternal life to all who believe.

How Christians commemorate this day:

• Joyful worship services with music and celebration
• Saying “He is risen!” and responding “He is risen indeed!”
• Family gatherings, feasts, and sometimes Easter egg hunts

🌼 Easter Monday

What it is:
Easter Monday is the day after Easter Sunday. While not celebrated by all Christian denominations, it is a public holiday in many countries.

How it’s observed:

• A day of rest or continued celebration
• Community events or outdoor family activities
• Some churches hold Easter-themed services or events
