What Does The Bible Say About Tattoos
May 28, 2024A lot of people believe in God —
but still feel distant from Him.
They wonder things like:
- How do I actually know God?
- Why do I still feel disconnected?
- Am I doing something wrong?
- Do I need to become “good enough” first?
- Why does God feel far away?
Many people think having a relationship with God is about:
- following rules
- trying harder
- being religious
- or becoming perfect
But the Bible teaches something very different.
👉 God wants relationship, not just religious performance.
⚡ The Clear Answer
👉 A relationship with God begins through Jesus Christ.
Not through:
- perfection
- religion
- good works
- or trying to earn God’s love
The Bible teaches that people are brought close to God through faith in Jesus.
Romans 10:9 says:
“if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you are saved.”
John 14:6 says:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Ephesians 2:8–9 says:
“For by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works…”
This means:
👉 you do not earn a relationship with God by becoming perfect first.
Relationship with God begins by:
- coming to Him honestly
- believing in Jesus
- and continuing to seek Him daily.
What a Relationship With God Actually Means
A relationship with God is not just:
- going to church
- reading verses occasionally
- or knowing information about the Bible
It is about:
- knowing God personally
- walking with Him daily
- trusting Him
- speaking with Him
- learning from Him
- and growing spiritually over time
The Bible describes relationship with God as:
- close
- personal
- ongoing
- and real
James 4:8 says:
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.”
👉 God is not asking for perfection before relationship.
He invites people to come to Him.
God Wants a Relationship With You
Some people secretly believe:
- God is avoiding them
- God is angry with them constantly
- or they are “too far gone”
But the Bible repeatedly shows:
👉 God invites people to come close to Him.
Jeremiah 29:13 says:
“Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
Revelation 3:20 says:
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock…”
God is not hiding from people.
He responds to those who genuinely seek Him.
How to Build a Relationship With God (Practical Steps)
1. Talk to God honestly
Prayer is not about sounding perfect or religious.
God already knows:
- your thoughts
- struggles
- fears
- and questions
What to do:
- Speak honestly to God
- Tell Him what is really going on
- Pray consistently, even if it feels simple
For example:
- “God, help me know You”
- “God, I feel distant”
- “God, help me trust You”
👉 Relationship grows through honesty and consistency
2. Read the Bible regularly
The Bible is how people learn:
- God’s character
- His truth
- His wisdom
- and His will
What to do:
- Read small sections consistently
- Reflect on what the verses actually mean
- Focus on understanding, not rushing
Psalm 119:105 says:
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet…”
👉 God’s Word helps guide spiritual growth
3. Spend time with God daily
Relationships weaken without time and connection.
The same is true spiritually.
What to do:
- Set aside daily time with God
- Pray consistently
- Read scripture regularly
- Remove distractions when possible
👉 Consistency matters more than perfection
4. Stop trying to earn God’s love
Many people live like they must constantly “prove” themselves to God.
But salvation is not earned through:
- performance
- perfection
- or religious effort
Romans 5:8 says:
“God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
👉 God loved you before you had everything together
5. Obey what God teaches
Relationship with God is not only emotional.
It also involves:
- obedience
- trust
- and spiritual growth
Jesus said in John 14:15:
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
What to do:
- Apply what scripture teaches
- Turn away from sinful habits
- Seek to honour God daily
👉 Obedience strengthens spiritual closeness
6. Keep seeking God even when feelings change
Many people quit because:
- they stop “feeling” close to God
- prayer feels quiet
- or spiritual growth feels slow
But relationship with God is built through:
- faith
- consistency
- and trust
Not constant emotional highs.
👉 Spiritual growth often happens gradually.
What Stops People From Growing Close to God
Several things can create spiritual distance, including:
- sin
- pride
- distractions
- constant busyness
- fear
- shame
- bitterness
- and inconsistency
Sometimes people only seek God during:
- crisis
- fear
- or emergencies
But healthy relationships require ongoing connection.
👉 God calls believers to stay connected to Him consistently.
Relationship With God Takes Time
A strong relationship with God usually does not happen instantly.
Like any relationship:
- trust grows over time
- understanding deepens gradually
- and connection strengthens through consistency
Some seasons may feel:
- spiritually strong
- peaceful
- and close to God
Other seasons may feel:
- dry
- difficult
- or confusing
That does not mean God abandoned you.
👉 Keep seeking Him anyway.
John 15:4 says:
“Abide in me, and I in you…”
Relationship grows by remaining connected to God over time.
