Bible Verses For Addiction
January 19, 2025Bible Verses For New Year
January 19, 2025A lot of people carry sadness quietly.
Sometimes it comes from:
- disappointment
- loneliness
- grief
- exhaustion
- things that didn’t work out
- or simply feeling emotionally heavy for a long time
And when sadness stays for a while, it can start to feel overwhelming.
The Bible doesn’t pretend sadness isn’t real.
👉 Many people in Scripture experienced deep sorrow, grief, and emotional pain.
But the Bible also shows:
👉 God stays close to people in their sadness.
⚡ What To Do Right Now
- Stop pretending you’re fine if you’re not
- Talk to God honestly about how you feel
- Read one comforting verse slowly instead of rushing through many
- Remind yourself that sadness is not abandonment from God
- Focus on staying connected to God, even emotionally exhausted
👉 You do not have to carry sadness alone
What the Bible Says About Sadness
The Bible is very honest about human emotion.
Scripture shows:
- people grieving
- people crying out to God
- people feeling overwhelmed
- people struggling emotionally
Even faithful believers experienced deep sorrow.
For example:
- David wrote many Psalms during emotional pain
- Elijah became exhausted and discouraged
- Job grieved deeply after loss
- Jesus Himself wept
👉 Sadness itself is not sin.
What matters is where you turn in the middle of it.
How to Handle Sadness Biblically (Practical Steps)
1. Bring your sadness to God honestly
Many people hide how they really feel.
But the Bible repeatedly shows people crying out honestly to God.
What to do:
- Pray honestly:
- “God, I feel heavy”
- “God, I’m struggling”
- “God, I feel tired emotionally”
👉 God already knows what you feel — honesty builds closeness with Him
2. Stop isolating yourself completely
Sadness often makes people withdraw from everyone.
While quiet time can help, total isolation usually makes things heavier.
What to do:
- Stay connected to supportive people
- Let trusted believers encourage you
- Don’t disappear completely into your thoughts
👉 Healing becomes harder when you carry everything alone
3. Stop believing sadness means God left you
This is a common fear.
But scripture repeatedly shows:
👉 God is especially near during brokenness.
Feelings change.
God’s presence does not.
Psalm 34:18 says:
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart…”
👉 God moves toward the brokenhearted, not away from them
4. Focus on small daily faithfulness
When sadness is heavy, even small things can feel difficult.
What to do:
- Read a few verses
- Say a simple prayer
- Take one day at a time
- Don’t pressure yourself to “fix everything” instantly
👉 Steady connection with God matters more than emotional intensity
5. Let hope grow slowly
Healing is often gradual.
Some sadness lifts quickly.
Some takes time.
But scripture consistently points people toward hope.
👉 God can restore strength, peace, and joy over time
