Many people ask whether swearing or cursing is sinful.
Although the Bible does not list every modern curse word, it repeatedly warns against speech that is:
- corrupt
- abusive
- filthy
- hateful
- or dishonouring to God.
Instead, believers are called to use their words to encourage others and glorify Christ.

The Bible teaches that our speech reflects what is happening inside our hearts.
Jesus said:
Matthew 12:34 says:
“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”
If our words are filled with anger, profanity, insults, or bitterness, they reveal something about our hearts that God wants to change.
As He transforms us from the inside out, our speech begins to reflect His character.
God Calls Believers to Pure Speech

Ephesians 4:29 says:

James 3 teaches that our words can either bring life or cause tremendous harm.
