June 22, 2024Bible Verses for Athletes
June 25, 2024I know how overwhelming anxiety can be, it can honestly feel so huge it starts affecting every area of your life. It can even take over your life and stop you from being able to enjoy yourself or progress in your goals. Rest assured I believe the Bible holds the answers to every problem we face including anxiety. God doesn’t want you to live with anxiety, God wants you to progress in life, in the plans and purpose He has for you. I know your anxiety feels big but I assure you God is bigger. God’s word can help you today, lets see what it says about anxiety.
Did Bible Characters Struggle With Anxiety?
Yes — even faithful men and women in the Bible experienced deep fear, distress, and emotional overwhelm. David wrote psalms describing his heart as troubled and afraid (Psalm 34:4). The prophet Elijah became so overwhelmed after intense pressure that he asked God to take his life (1 Kings 19). Even the apostle Paul the Apostle spoke of “fightings without and fears within” (2 Corinthians 7:5). Their struggles show us something important: feeling anxious does not mean you lack faith. It means you are human — and God meets His people in their distress, not after they have overcome it.
Practical Ways To Apply Gods Word To Your Life
- Pray to God and tell Him your worries – the Bible says to bring your worries and cares to God, tell Him your concerns. (1 Peter 5:7 – Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.)
- Know God has already made a way – the Bible explains God has already seen the future, because God exists everywhere at once, and in every time at once, He has already gone ahead of you and seen how everything is going to work out, so trust He has made a way. (Isaiah 43:19 – Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.)
- Replace negative thoughts with the Word of God – the Bible says to take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ. God knew we would have unproductive thoughts, replace those with what the Word of God says, for example if your thoughts are saying God has abandoned you, replace it with God has not abandoned me, the Bible says He will never leave or forsake me. (2 Corinthians 10:5 – We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.)
- Regulate your nervous system – So many things in the world can contribute to heightened anxiety; firstly look after your body, God tells us this is our temple, try and eat the foods God provided for us, exercise, drink water, sleep, stay away from things you know are not good for your body or mind. Not looking after our bodies and minds can increase anxiety and stress. (1 Corinthians 6:19 – Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price.)
- Stay away from sin and worldly things – When we sin or drift away from God’s Word our thoughts can become more chaotic and unsettled. Drawing close to God brings us peace and clarity. None of us are perfect, only Jesus was perfect and God does not expect us to be perfect, He wants us to seek a relationship with Him. God asks us to stay away from worldly things; things that glorify sin or evil, are disobedient to the word of God and would lead you astray from God. (Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God.)
- Repeat, repeat, repeat – Sometimes anxiety doesn’t go away immediately, negative thoughts come back, repeat these processes when needed.

Sometimes anxiety is just our mind running ahead of us. These Scriptures remind us that God is already in tomorrow, so we can rest in Him today.
Matthew 6:25–27 (KJV) – Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
Matthew 6:34 (KJV) – Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV) – Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) – For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

💔 When Anxiety Feels Heavy
Anxiety can feel like a weight in your chest that won’t lift. These Scriptures show us that God sees that heaviness and cares deeply about it.

Psalm 34:4 (KJV) – I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
🛡 When You Need Reassurance That God Is With You
A lot of anxiety comes from feeling alone in what we’re facing. These verses remind us that we are never walking through anything without God beside us.

Romans 8:38–39 (KJV) – For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Hebrews 13:5–6 (KJV) – Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
