What the Bible Says About College and Learning
Although the Bible does not specifically mention college or university, it has much to say about wisdom, learning, diligence, and trusting God.
Education is a valuable opportunity to develop the gifts God has given you.
However, knowledge alone is not enough.
True wisdom begins with knowing and honouring God.
Proverbs 9:10 says:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”
As you pursue your education, continue pursuing a deeper relationship with Christ.
Seek God’s Wisdom Above Human Knowledge
Learning new skills and gaining knowledge are valuable goals.
However, the greatest wisdom comes from God.
Scripture encourages believers to ask Him for wisdom whenever they face difficult decisions.
Whether you are choosing a degree, preparing for exams, or deciding what comes after graduation, God promises to guide those who seek Him in faith.
Trust God With Your Future
Many students wonder what the future will hold.
You may ask yourself:
- Which career should I choose?
- Where will I live?
- What if my plans change?
- Am I making the right decisions?
God already knows the answers.
Rather than becoming overwhelmed by uncertainty, believers can trust His guidance and follow Him one step at a time.
His plans are always wiser than our own (Proverbs 3:5–6; Jeremiah 29:11; Psalm 32:8).
Work Hard and Honour God
The Bible encourages diligence in everything we do.
Studying faithfully, completing assignments honestly, and giving your best effort all honour God.
Success is not measured only by grades or achievements.
God values faithfulness, integrity, and a willing heart.
As you work diligently, remember that you are ultimately serving Him (Colossians 3:23–24; Proverbs 14:23).
Choose Wise Friendships
The people around you influence your attitudes, decisions, and spiritual growth.
College often introduces students to many different ideas and relationships.
Choose friends who encourage you to grow closer to Christ rather than pulling you away from Him.
Godly friendships provide encouragement, accountability, and support during both joyful and difficult seasons (Proverbs 13:20; 1 Corinthians 15:33; Ecclesiastes 4:9–10).
Keep God First
College can become very busy.
Assignments, work, social activities, and other responsibilities can easily fill every moment.
Even during demanding seasons, make time for prayer, reading scripture, and worship.
Your relationship with God is far more important than any qualification you will ever earn.
As you seek Him first, He will help you keep everything else in its proper place (Matthew 6:33; Psalm 119:105).
