Whether someone is struggling with:

- drugs
- pornography
- gambling
- unhealthy habits
- or another controlling behaviour,
the Bible offers real hope through Jesus Christ.
Scripture teaches that God has the power to forgive, restore, strengthen, and transform those who turn to Him.
Although overcoming addiction may require ongoing support, accountability, and practical help, believers never face the journey alone.

What the Bible Says About Addiction
The Bible does not use the modern word “addiction.”
However, it speaks clearly about anything that controls us instead of allowing God to have first place in our lives.
Scripture warns believers against becoming mastered by sinful desires or harmful behaviours.
First Corinthians 6:12 says:
“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient… I will not be brought under the power of any.”
God desires His people to live under the lordship of Christ rather than being controlled by anything else.
Jesus Offers Freedom
The greatest freedom God offers is freedom from the power of sin.
Jesus came to rescue people from spiritual bondage and give them new life.
Through faith in Him, believers receive:
- forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7)
- new life (2 Corinthians 5:17)
- the power to resist sin (Romans 6:6–14)
- and the help of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16).
Although recovery may take time, God faithfully works in the lives of those who seek Him.

God promises that He will provide strength and a way to endure temptation.
First Corinthians 10:13 says:
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful… will with the temptation also make a way to escape.”
No temptation is stronger than God’s power to help His children remain faithful.

Breaking free from addiction often involves changing the way we think.
The Bible teaches that God transforms believers by renewing their minds through His truth.
As Christians fill their hearts with scripture, prayer, and godly influences, the Holy Spirit gradually changes their desires and attitudes (Romans 12:2; Psalm 119:11; Philippians 4:8).
Spiritual renewal plays an important role in lasting transformation.
Do Not Fight Alone
God never intended believers to face life’s struggles in isolation.
Trusted Christian friends, church leaders, and mature believers can provide:
- encouragement

- prayer
- wisdom
- and practical support.
