What the Bible Says About Babies
Throughout scripture, babies are presented as gifts from God rather than burdens.
Children are not accidents.
Instead, they are part of God’s loving design for families and future generations.
Psalm 127:3 says:
“Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”
This verse reminds believers that children are blessings entrusted to us by God.
God Knows Every Baby Before Birth
The Bible teaches that God is actively involved in creating every human life.
Long before a baby is born, God already knows them.
Scripture reveals that He:
- forms each child in the womb (Psalm 139:13–16)
- knows every person before birth (Jeremiah 1:5)
- creates each individual with purpose (Genesis 1:26–27)
- and lovingly oversees every stage of life (Job 10:8–12).
Every baby is wonderfully made by the Creator.
Babies Reflect God’s Goodness
The birth of a baby reminds us of God’s kindness and faithfulness.
Every new life demonstrates His creative power and loving care.
Parents often experience both great joy and great responsibility as they care for the children God has entrusted to them.
The Bible encourages families to raise children in ways that honour the Lord (Deuteronomy 6:6–7; Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 6:4).
Jesus Loved Little Children
Jesus welcomed children when others tried to keep them away.
He demonstrated that children have great value in God’s kingdom.
Mark 10:14 says:
“Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.”
Christ’s love for children reminds believers to value, protect, and care for every child.
Parents Have an Important Responsibility
God gives parents the privilege of raising their children.
Along with that privilege comes the responsibility to:
- teach God’s Word (Deuteronomy 6:6–7)
- provide loving discipline (Proverbs 29:15; Hebrews 12:11)
- encourage spiritual growth (Ephesians 6:4)
- and set a godly example (Proverbs 20:7).
Parents cannot control every choice their children will make.
However, they can faithfully point them toward Christ through both words and actions.
Babies Are a Reminder of Hope
The arrival of a baby often marks the beginning of a new chapter.
Throughout the Bible, God used the births of children to accomplish His purposes.
Isaac, Samuel, John the Baptist, and Jesus all entered the world according to God’s perfect plan (Genesis 21:1–3; 1 Samuel 1:27–28; Luke 1:13–17; Luke 2:10–11).
Their lives remind us that God continues working through every generation.
