What Is the Unforgivable Sin?

Why Is Forgiveness So Hard?
August 31, 2025If you feel like your faith is weak, you are not alone.
There may be times when you believe in God but still have questions. You might pray and wonder whether God is listening, or go through something difficult and find yourself struggling to trust Him.
Having questions or going through seasons where your faith feels weak does not mean you have failed as a Christian. Faith is something that grows as we get to know God, spend time in His Word, pray, obey Him and learn to trust Him through the different things we experience.
The disciples themselves had moments when their faith was weak, even though they had walked with Jesus.
So how can you build stronger faith?
What Is Faith?
Faith is trusting God even when you cannot see everything clearly.
Hebrews 11:1 — What Faith Means
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Faith does not mean pretending that you have no questions.
It means choosing to trust God even when you do not have every answer.
You may not understand what God is doing, but you can still believe that He is good, that He is faithful and that He is working even when you cannot see it.
Faith Grows When You Know God
It is difficult to deeply trust someone you do not know.
The same is true of our relationship with God.
The more you learn about who God is, what He has done and what He has promised, the more you have a reason to trust Him.
This is one reason the Bible is so important.
When you read about God’s faithfulness throughout Scripture, you begin to see that He has always been faithful to His people.
Read the Bible Regularly
If you want stronger faith, one of the best places to start is God’s Word.
Romans 10:17 — Faith Comes by Hearing
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
The Bible teaches us who God is and reminds us of His promises.
When you spend time in Scripture, you are not simply learning information about God. You are getting to know Him.
You may not always have time to read several chapters.
Even reading a small section each day can help you build a habit of spending time with God.
As you continue reading, you will begin to recognise His character and understand His ways more clearly.
Pray and Ask God to Strengthen Your Faith
You do not have to pretend your faith is stronger than it really is when you pray.
God already knows what is going on inside you.
If you are struggling to believe, tell Him.
Mark 9:24 — “Help My Unbelief”
“And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”
I love this prayer because it is so honest.
The man believed, but he also recognised that he needed help with his unbelief.
You can pray the same thing.
“God, I believe, but please help me trust You more.”
You do not need perfect words.
You just need to be honest with God.
Spend Time With God
Faith grows through relationship.
If you only think about God occasionally, it can be difficult to build a strong relationship with Him.
Spend time talking to Him throughout your day.
You can pray while you are driving, cleaning the house, going for a walk or sitting quietly.
Prayer does not have to be complicated.
You can talk to God about what happened during your day, what you are worried about, what you are thankful for and what you need help with.
The more you spend time with God, the more familiar His presence and His Word become.
Remember What God Has Already Done
Sometimes we struggle with faith because we are focused completely on what is happening right now.
When you are in the middle of a difficult situation, it can be easy to forget all the times God has helped you before.
Take some time to remember.
Think about prayers God has answered.
Remember the times He provided for you.
Think about situations where you did not know what was going to happen but God carried you through them.
Psalm 77:11 — Remember God’s Works
“I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.”
Remembering God’s faithfulness can strengthen your faith for what you are facing now.
You can even write down answered prayers and moments where you saw God working in your life.
When another difficult season comes, you will have something to look back on.
Faith Grows When You Step Out and Trust God
Faith is not only something we think about.
It is something we live.
There are times when God asks us to trust Him by obeying Him even when we cannot see the outcome.
You may need to forgive someone.
You may need to step away from something God has shown you is wrong.
You may need to have a difficult conversation.
You may need to give something to God that you have been trying to control.
Every time you choose obedience and trust, you are exercising your faith.
James 2:17 — Faith Is Shown Through Our Actions
“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”
Our actions do not earn God’s love or salvation.
Instead, genuine faith affects the way we live.
When we trust God, we begin to act on that trust.
Do Not Wait Until You Feel Certain About Everything
Sometimes people think they need to have every question answered before they can have strong faith.
But faith would not really be faith if we could see and understand everything beforehand.
2 Corinthians 5:7 — Walk by Faith
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
There will be things about God that you do not understand.
There may be prayers you do not understand.
There may be situations where you cannot see what God is doing.
That does not mean God has stopped working.
You can trust Him even when you cannot see the whole picture.
Faith Can Grow Through Difficult Times
It may seem strange, but some of the strongest faith can grow during difficult seasons.
When everything is going well, it can be easy to say you trust God.
When things become difficult, you have to actually learn what it means to depend on Him.
Trials can teach us to rely on God rather than ourselves.
James 1:2–4 — Trials Can Produce Endurance
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
This does not mean we have to enjoy suffering.
It means God can use difficult experiences to grow something in us.
A difficult season can teach you patience, dependence, perseverance and deeper trust in God.
Surround Yourself With Other Christians
Faith can become difficult when you try to walk the Christian life completely alone.
God created the Church so that believers could encourage one another.
Other Christians can remind you of God’s faithfulness when you are struggling to see it yourself.
Hebrews 10:24–25 — Encourage One Another
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Being around other believers gives you opportunities to learn, encourage others and be encouraged yourself.
This could be through a local church, Bible study, Christian friendships or other healthy Christian community.
Listen to the Testimonies of Other Believers
Hearing how God has worked in someone else’s life can remind you that God is still working.
When someone tells you how God answered their prayer, helped them through a difficult season or changed their life, it can encourage your own faith.
You can also share what God has done in your life.
Your testimony may be exactly what another person needs to hear when they are struggling.
Stop Comparing Your Faith to Someone Else’s
Sometimes we look at another Christian who seems incredibly confident in their faith and wonder why we are not like them.
You may see someone who prays confidently, knows Scripture well and seems completely certain about everything.
Remember that you are seeing part of their journey.
God is growing each person differently.
Your faith does not have to look exactly like someone else’s.
Instead of asking, “Why isn’t my faith as strong as theirs?”, ask, “How can I grow closer to God today?”
Even Small Faith Matters
Jesus taught that faith does not have to feel enormous for God to work through it.
Matthew 17:20 — Faith Like a Mustard Seed
“And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
A mustard seed is tiny.
Jesus used it to show that we should not focus on how impressive our faith feels.
Instead, we should focus on the God we are trusting.
Even when your faith feels small, God is still God.
What If I Have Doubts?
Having a question does not automatically mean you have lost your faith.
Sometimes questions can actually lead you to search deeper.
If you have doubts, bring them to God rather than being afraid of them.
Study Scripture.
Ask questions.
Talk to mature Christians.
Pray about what you are struggling with.
God is not threatened by your questions.
Jeremiah 29:13 — Seek God With Your Whole Heart
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
Faith is not built by pretending you have no questions.
It grows as you continue seeking God through those questions.
Trust God With What You Cannot Control
One of the biggest things that can weaken our faith is trying to control everything ourselves.
We want to know exactly what is going to happen.
We want to know when God will answer our prayer.
We want to know how everything will work out.
But God does not always show us the whole plan.
Proverbs 3:5–6 — Trust God
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
You do not have to understand everything before you trust God.
Sometimes faith means saying, “God, I don’t understand this, but I trust You.”
Faith Grows Through Obedience
Sometimes we ask God to give us stronger faith while ignoring something He has already asked us to do.
If God has shown you something through His Word, obey Him.
You do not need to know everything that will happen next.
Obedience is one way we show God that we trust Him.
As you take those steps of obedience, you will often see that God is faithful.
Keep Seeking God Even When You Do Not Feel Anything
There may be seasons when you do not feel close to God.
Your prayers may feel dry.
Reading the Bible may feel difficult.
You may wonder why you do not feel God’s presence like you once did.
Do not assume that your feelings tell you everything about what God is doing.
Faith is not based entirely on emotion.
There will be days when you feel close to God and days when you do not.
Keep seeking Him anyway.
Galatians 6:9 — Do Not Give Up
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Keep praying.
Keep reading Scripture.
Keep obeying.
Keep seeking God.
Your faith can continue growing even during seasons when you do not feel like it is.
Ask God to Help You Trust Him
You do not have to build stronger faith completely on your own.
Ask God to help you.
Ask Him to reveal Himself to you through His Word.
Ask Him to help you recognise His faithfulness.
Ask Him to strengthen you when you are afraid.
Ask Him to help you trust Him when you cannot see what He is doing.
Psalm 119:105 — God’s Word Guides Us
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
God may not show you the entire road ahead.
Sometimes He gives you enough light to take the next step.
Faith means trusting Him with that next step.
Stronger Faith Takes Time
You do not need to become spiritually mature overnight.
Faith grows over time as you continue walking with God.
There will be seasons when you feel incredibly close to Him and other seasons when you struggle.
There will be prayers that are answered quickly and prayers that require years of waiting.
There will be moments when you feel certain and moments when you have questions.
Keep going.
Philippians 1:6 — God Is Still Working in You
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”
God is not finished with you.
You may look at your faith and see how much stronger you want it to be.
God sees the work He is already doing in you.
How Can I Have Stronger Faith?
If you want stronger faith, start by getting closer to God.
Read His Word so you can know who He is and what He has promised.
Pray honestly, including when you have doubts or questions.
Remember the ways God has already been faithful to you.
Spend time with other believers who can encourage you.
Obey God in the things He has already shown you.
And when difficult seasons come, keep trusting Him even when you cannot see what He is doing.
Hebrews 11:6 — Seek God
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
You do not need perfect faith.
You need a willingness to keep seeking God.
When your faith feels weak, bring that weakness to Him.
When you have doubts, bring your questions to Him.
When you are afraid, tell Him.
And when you fall, get back up and keep walking.
Faith grows as you continue to know God, trust Him and experience His faithfulness.
You may not have strong faith today, but you can take another step toward God today. And as you keep walking with Him, your faith can grow.
