Angels are real.
The Bible teaches that they are spiritual beings created by God to serve Him and carry out His purposes.
Throughout scripture, angels:
- worship God (Isaiah 6:1–3; Revelation 5:11–12)
- deliver God’s messages (Luke 1:26–38; Matthew 1:20–21)
- protect and minister to God’s people (Psalm 91:11–12; Hebrews 1:14)
- carry out God’s judgment (Genesis 19:1–13; Acts 12:23)
- and rejoice when sinners repent (Luke 15:10).
Although angels play an important role in God’s plan, the Bible never tells believers to worship or pray to them.
Instead, all worship belongs to God alone (Exodus 20:3–5; Revelation 22:8–9).

What the Bible Says About Angels
The Bible describes angels as spiritual beings created by God.
They are not:
- human beings who have died
- objects of worship
- or independent spiritual powers.
Instead, they exist to serve God and accomplish His will.
Hebrews 1:14 says:
“Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”
Every angel ultimately serves God’s purposes.
Angels Worship God
Before angels serve anyone else, they worship God.
Isaiah saw angels surrounding God’s throne, continually declaring His holiness.
Revelation also describes countless angels praising God and the Lamb.
Their example reminds believers that worship belongs to God alone (Isaiah 6:1–3; Revelation 5:11–12).
Angels Deliver God’s Messages
God often used angels to communicate important messages.
For example:
- Gabriel announced the birth of John the Baptist (Luke 1:11–20)
- Gabriel told Mary she would give birth to Jesus (Luke 1:26–38)
- an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream (Matthew 1:20–21)
- and angels announced Christ’s birth to the shepherds (Luke 2:8–14).
These events demonstrate that angels faithfully carry out God’s instructions.
Angels Minister to God’s People
The Bible teaches that God sometimes sends angels to minister to His people.
They protected Daniel in the lions’ den (Daniel 6:22).
An angel strengthened Elijah in the wilderness (1 Kings 19:5–8).
After Jesus was tempted, angels came and ministered to Him (Matthew 4:11).
Although God may use angels in His care for believers, our trust should always remain in God Himself rather than in angels.
Do Not Worship Angels
Several passages clearly warn against giving angels the worship that belongs only to God.
When the apostle John fell before an angel in Revelation, the angel immediately stopped him.
Revelation 22:8–9 says:
“See thou do it not… worship God.”
Angels point people toward God.
They never seek worship for themselves.
Jesus Is Greater Than the Angels
The book of Hebrews teaches that Jesus is far greater than every angel.
Angels are servants.
Jesus is the eternal Son of God.
They worship Him because He is the Creator and King over all things (Hebrews 1:3–14; Colossians 1:16–17).
Our faith rests in Christ rather than in any created being.
How to Respond Biblically (Practical Steps)
1. Worship God alone
Keep your focus on Him.
What to do:
- Pray to God
- Praise Him daily
- Give Him the glory

Depend on His care.

- Pray confidently
- Remember His promises
- Rest in His faithfulness

Build your understanding on God’s Word.

- Avoid speculation

4. Follow Christ
Keep your eyes on Jesus.

- Obey His Word
- Trust His authority
- Walk faithfully

Recognise His care.

As believers study what scripture teaches about angels, they should grow in worship of the Creator rather than becoming preoccupied with His messengers.
Final Thought
The Bible teaches that angels are real and serve God’s purposes.
They worship Him, obey His commands, minister according to His will, and rejoice in His work of salvation.
Although angels are remarkable beings, they are created servants.
Jesus Christ alone is worthy of our worship.
You do not need to:
- fear angels
- pray to angels
- or become distracted by speculation about them.
Instead, trust God, worship Jesus Christ, and allow the Bible to shape your understanding of the unseen spiritual world.
As you continue walking with Him, something begins to happen.
