It can come from:
- the loss of a loved one

- tragedy
- or any significant loss.
Grief affects people differently.
Some experience:
- sadness
- confusion
- anger
- loneliness
- numbness
- or overwhelming sorrow.
The Bible does not ignore grief.
In fact, scripture acknowledges grief as a real part of life in a fallen world and repeatedly points hurting people toward God’s comfort, presence, and hope.
⚡ What To Do Right Now
- Bring your grief honestly to God
- Allow yourself to mourn
- Spend time reading God’s promises
- Ask trusted believers to pray for you
- Remember that God is near, even when you cannot feel it
👉 You do not have to carry your grief alone
What the Bible Says About Grief
The Bible is filled with examples of people grieving.
Many faithful men and women in scripture experienced:
- loss
- sorrow
- heartbreak
- and mourning.
The Bible never teaches that believers should pretend they are not hurting.
Instead, scripture shows people bringing their pain honestly before God. The Psalms especially contain many prayers of grief, sorrow, and lament.
God understands grief and invites people to come to Him during seasons of sorrow.
God Is Near to the Brokenhearted
One of the most comforting truths in scripture is that God is close to those who are hurting.
Psalm 34:18 says:
“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
When grief feels overwhelming,
God is not distant.
The Bible teaches that He is especially near to those who are brokenhearted and crushed in spirit.
Jesus Understands Grief
Jesus Himself experienced grief.
When Lazarus died, Jesus saw the sorrow of those around Him.
John 11:35 says:
“Jesus wept.”
This shortest verse in the Bible reveals something powerful:
👉 Jesus understands human sorrow.
He is not indifferent to pain.
He understands grief because He experienced it Himself.
Grief Is Not a Lack of Faith
Sometimes people feel guilty for grieving.
They think:
- “I should be stronger.”
- “I should have more faith.”
- “I shouldn’t feel this sad.”
But the Bible never teaches that grief is sinful.
Many godly people mourned deeply.
Even Jesus grieved.
Grief is not evidence of weak faith.
Often it is evidence of deep love and genuine loss.
God Brings Comfort During Sorrow
One of God’s promises is His comfort.
Matthew 5:4 says:
“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”
This does not mean grief disappears immediately.
But it does mean God walks with His people through their sorrow and provides comfort during difficult seasons.
Grief Does Not Last Forever
Grief can feel endless.
But the Bible offers hope.
Revelation 21:4 says:
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain…”
For believers, grief is not the end of the story.
God promises a future where:
- death is gone
- sorrow is gone
- pain is gone
- and tears are wiped away forever.
