Is Lilith in the Bible? Separating Myth from Scripture
March 15, 2025Even though the parable of the 99 sheep is simple, it’s easy to misunderstand.
You’ve probably heard the phrase:
👉 “leaving the 99 to find the one”
However, what does that actually mean?
Is it about:
- being more important?
- being lost?
- or something deeper?
So let’s break it down clearly.
⚡ The Clear Meaning
👉 The parable of the 99 sheep shows that God actively seeks those who are lost
It’s not about:
- favouritism
- or leaving others behind
Instead, it shows the value of every single person.
Where This Comes From in the Bible
For example, this teaching comes from Matthew 18:12–14 and is also found in Luke 15.
Jesus says:
Matthew 18:12–13 (KJV)
“How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray… he goeth… and seeketh that which is gone astray…”
👉 The shepherd leaves the 99 to go after the one that is lost.
What the 99 Sheep Represent
The 99 represent those who are already safe.
In other words:
- they are not lost
- they are already where they need to be
However, this does not mean they are ignored.
What the One Lost Sheep Represents
The one sheep represents someone who has gone astray.
For example, it can be:
- someone struggling
- someone distant from God
- someone who feels lost
Most importantly:
👉 God does not ignore them — He goes after them.
What This Parable Shows
1. God values every individual
First, God does not see people as just a group.
Instead, He sees each person individually.
👉 Even one person matters.
2. God takes initiative
Next, the sheep does not find its way back.
Instead, the shepherd goes looking.
👉 This shows that God moves toward people.
3. God responds with joy
Then, when the sheep is found, there is celebration.
👉 God is not distant — He rejoices when someone returns.
4. Being lost doesn’t make someone less important
Finally, the focus is on the one, because that’s where the need is.
👉 Being lost doesn’t reduce someone’s value.
What This Means for You
If you feel distant from God
Even when you feel far from Him, you are not invisible to God.
👉 God moves toward you.
If you feel like you’ve gone too far
However, you haven’t.
👉 This parable shows that God goes after the one who is lost.
If you feel overlooked
At the same time, this does not mean others are forgotten.
👉 You are already known and cared for.

Final Thought
Even though this parable is simple, it carries a clear message.
It’s not about:
- leaving people behind
- or ranking importance
Instead, it shows this:
👉 God does not ignore the one who is lost
He sees
He goes after
He restores
And because of that:
👉 Even when you feel far from Him, you are not invisible to God
