Bible Verses About Justice
August 13, 2024Bible Verses About God Being With Us
August 13, 2024The Bible speaks about the heart hundreds of times.
However, when scripture refers to the heart, it is usually talking about much more than the physical organ that pumps blood through the body.
In the Bible, the heart often refers to the center of a person’s:
- thoughts
- desires
- emotions
- intentions
- and spiritual condition.
God is deeply concerned with the heart because our actions flow from what is happening inside us.
While people often focus on outward appearances, God looks deeper and examines the heart.
👉 The condition of your heart matters to God.
⚡ What To Do Right Now
- Ask God to examine your heart
- Spend time reading His Word daily
- Guard your heart against sinful influences
- Pray for a heart that seeks God
- Focus on inward transformation, not just outward behaviour
👉 God wants to transform your heart, not just your actions
What the Bible Says About the Heart
Throughout scripture, the heart is presented as the source of many things in a person’s life.
The Bible teaches that our:
- words
- actions
- attitudes
- and decisions
often reveal what is happening in our hearts.
Proverbs 4:23 says:
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
This verse teaches that the heart influences every area of life.
Because of this, believers are instructed to guard their hearts carefully.
God Looks at the Heart
People are often impressed by outward appearance.
God is not.
When Samuel was choosing a king for Israel, God reminded him that His perspective is different.
1 Samuel 16:7 says:
“For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”
A person may appear successful, religious, or impressive on the outside while struggling spiritually on the inside.
God sees what others cannot see.
Nothing in the heart is hidden from Him.
The Heart Can Be Deceptive
One of the Bible’s strongest warnings about the heart is found in Jeremiah.
Jeremiah 17:9 says:
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
This verse reminds us that human feelings and desires are not always trustworthy.
While the world often says, “Follow your heart,” the Bible teaches that our hearts need God’s guidance because they can lead us in the wrong direction.
This is why believers should follow God’s truth rather than relying solely on emotions.
God Wants to Give Us a New Heart
The good news is that God does not leave people trapped in their sinful condition.
He offers transformation.
Ezekiel 36:26 says:
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you…”
Through faith in Christ, God changes people from the inside out.
Christianity is not merely about external behaviour.
It is about a transformed heart that desires to follow God.
Loving God With All Your Heart
When Jesus was asked about the greatest commandment, He pointed directly to the heart.
Matthew 22:37 says:
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”
God desires wholehearted devotion.
He does not want part of our hearts.
He wants our complete love, trust, and commitment.
What Fills the Heart Comes Out
Jesus taught that what is inside a person’s heart eventually becomes visible.
Luke 6:45 says:
“For of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”
Our words often reveal:
- our attitudes
- our priorities
- our beliefs
- and our spiritual condition.
A heart filled with God’s truth will eventually produce godly speech and actions.
