Bible Verses For Strength
January 20, 2025Bible Verses For Kindness
January 20, 2025Lust is something many people struggle with, even if they never talk about it openly.
For some people it’s:
- sexual thoughts they can’t seem to control
- pornography
- fantasy
- unhealthy desires
- emotional obsession
- or constantly battling temptation mentally.
And often, people carry a lot of:
- shame
- guilt
- frustration
- or secrecy around it.
The Bible speaks honestly about lust, but not just to condemn people.
It speaks about it because God understands:
👉 what unchecked desire can do to the mind, heart, relationships, and spiritual life over time.
At the same time, Scripture also points people toward:
- repentance
- self-control
- purity
- wisdom
- and freedom from being ruled by sinful desires.
⚡ The Clear Answer
👉 The Bible teaches that lust is more than physical temptation — it begins in the heart and mind, and believers are called to pursue purity and self-control instead of feeding sinful desires
Scripture does not say:
👉 temptation itself is automatically sin
Even Jesus was tempted.
But the Bible repeatedly warns against:
- feeding lust
- dwelling on sinful desires
- and allowing them to take control over thoughts and actions.
What the Bible Actually Says About Lust
1. Lust begins internally
Jesus addressed lust very directly.
Gospel of Matthew 5:27–28 (KJV)
“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
This mattered because Jesus showed that sin is not only external behaviour.
It also involves:
- thoughts
- desires
- intentions
- and what people continually feed mentally.
2. Lust grows when it is continually fed
The Bible repeatedly warns people not to entertain sinful desires casually.
Epistle of James 1:14–15 (KJV)
“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin…”
That progression matters.
Because lust often grows gradually through:
- repeated thoughts
- fantasy
- temptation
- and feeding desires instead of resisting them.
3. God calls believers toward purity and self-control
The Bible does not present purity as:
👉 repression
👉 shame
👉 or pretending attraction does not exist
Instead, it points toward:
- wisdom
- self-control
- honouring God
- and not being controlled by sinful desires.
First Epistle to the Thessalonians 4:3–5 (KJV)
“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour…”
Self-control is treated as part of spiritual maturity.
4. What you feed your mind matters
A lot of lust battles are intensified by what people continually consume mentally.
The Bible repeatedly points people toward guarding their minds.
Epistle to the Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
“Whatsoever things are true… honest… just… pure… think on these things.”
What you repeatedly expose yourself to affects:
- desires
- thought patterns
- temptations
- and self-control over time.
5. God offers forgiveness and restoration
A lot of people feel trapped in shame because of sexual sin or repeated struggles with lust.
But the Bible repeatedly points people back toward:
- repentance
- forgiveness
- and God’s mercy.
First Epistle of John 1:9 (KJV)
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
That does not mean:
👉 treating sin casually
But it does mean failure is not beyond God’s forgiveness.
Why This Matters
Lust is not harmless just because culture normalises it constantly.
Unchecked lust can slowly affect:
- relationships
- marriages
- emotional health
- self-control
- thought patterns
- and spiritual life.
And many people discover that feeding lust rarely brings lasting peace or satisfaction.
Instead, it often leads to:
- secrecy
- shame
- dissatisfaction
- emotional emptiness
- or unhealthy attachment.
That’s why the Bible treats lust seriously.
Not because God wants people trapped in shame, but because He understands where uncontrolled desires eventually lead.
What to Come Back To
If you struggle with lust, you are not:
- uniquely broken
- beyond hope
- or automatically fake spiritually.
Temptation itself is part of living in a fallen world.
The important question becomes:
👉 what are you feeding?
👉 what are you dwelling on?
👉 and what direction are you moving in consistently?
The Bible calls believers to:
- fight temptation seriously
- pursue purity intentionally
- and rely on God instead of pretending they are strong enough alone.
And real growth in this area usually involves:
- honesty
- accountability
- changing habits
- renewing the mind
- and learning self-control over time.
Practical Ways to Fight Lust Biblically
1. Stop feeding what keeps pulling you back into temptation
A lot of people pray about lust while continuing to constantly consume:
- sexual content
- fantasy
- triggering entertainment
- or environments that intensify temptation.
That usually keeps the cycle going.
Sometimes growth requires removing things that continually feed unhealthy desires.
2. Understand that thoughts grow stronger when entertained repeatedly
Temptation often begins small mentally.
The longer people:
- fantasise
- dwell on thoughts
- or keep revisiting temptation mentally
the stronger those desires often become.
Learning to redirect thoughts early matters.
3. Bring struggles into the light instead of hiding them
Shame grows stronger in secrecy.
A lot of people stay trapped because they:
- isolate
- hide
- and pretend they are not struggling.
But healing often requires honesty before God and sometimes trusted accountability too.
4. Focus on building self-control overall
Self-control is not only about lust.
The more people learn discipline in:
- thoughts
- habits
- emotions
- and daily choices
the stronger they often become in resisting temptation generally.
5. Remember that purity is not only about rules
Biblical purity is ultimately about:
- honouring God
- protecting the mind and heart
- and learning to love people rightly instead of reducing them to desire.
That perspective changes the conversation significantly.

Final Thought
Lust is not something to:
- minimise
- joke about constantly
- or quietly allow to control your life.
The Bible treats it seriously because unchecked desire affects:
- the mind
- the heart
- relationships
- and spiritual health over time.
But Scripture also points people toward:
- forgiveness
- growth
- self-control
- and freedom from being ruled by sinful desires.
And real change is possible, even if growth feels slow at times.
So if this is an area you struggle with:
👉 stop hiding it
👉 bring it honestly before God
👉 remove what keeps feeding temptation
👉 and keep pursuing purity one step at a time.
Because God’s goal is not shame.
It’s transformation.
