A Question Many Ask

Almost every Christian at some point wonders: “Can I really trust the Bible?” That question is important, because if the Bible is reliable, then we can trust what it says about God, salvation, and life. If it isn’t, our faith has no foundation. Thankfully, there are solid reasons—historical, spiritual, and practical—that show the Bible is trustworthy.

1. Historical Evidence Supports the Bible

The Bible is not a made-up story. It speaks of real places, real people, and real events. Archaeology continues to uncover evidence that confirms the accuracy of Scripture. For example:

  • The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls proved that the Old Testament we read today is nearly identical to the texts written thousands of years ago.
  • Archaeologists have uncovered ancient cities mentioned in the Bible—like Jericho, Nineveh, and Capernaum.
  • Historical records outside the Bible (like writings from Josephus, a first-century Jewish historian) confirm details about Jesus and the early church.

The Bible is deeply rooted in history, not myth.

2. Fulfilled Prophecy Shows God’s Hand

One of the strongest reasons to trust the Bible is prophecy. The Old Testament contains hundreds of prophecies about the Messiah, all fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

  • Written centuries before His birth, prophecies foretold that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2), be betrayed for thirty pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12), and suffer for the sins of others (Isaiah 53).
  • Jesus fulfilled these prophecies with stunning accuracy, something impossible by coincidence alone.

Prophecy proves the Bible carries divine authority—only God can reveal the future so clearly.

3. Unity Across 66 Books

The Bible is made up of 66 books, written by around 40 different authors over 1,500 years. These authors lived in different times and places, spoke different languages, and came from different backgrounds—yet the Bible tells one consistent story: God’s plan to redeem humanity through Jesus Christ.

This kind of unity is impossible without divine intervention. It’s like a symphony: many instruments, but one Composer.

4. The Bible Changes Lives

Beyond historical facts and prophecies, the most powerful proof is transformation. Millions of people—including me—can testify that God’s Word brings peace, healing, hope, and freedom.

  • It gives comfort to the anxious.
  • It strengthens the weak.
  • It restores the brokenhearted.
  • It leads people to salvation in Christ.

No other book has had such an impact on individuals and on history itself.

5. Jesus Trusted the Bible

Finally, the most important reason: Jesus Himself trusted and quoted Scripture. He often said, “It is written” before resisting temptation or teaching truth (Matthew 4:4). If Jesus—the Son of God—affirmed the Bible as God’s Word, we can too.

Final Encouragement

You don’t have to have every answer to trust the Bible. But you can be confident that it is reliable, accurate, and inspired by God. As you read it daily, you’ll not only gain knowledge but also encounter the living God who wrote it.

❤ Takeaway:
We can trust the Bible because history confirms it, prophecy proves it, and lives—including yours—are transformed by it.

Why This Question Matters

It’s natural to wonder: If God is good, why does life feel hard? Many people wrestle with this question, especially when facing suffering, loss, or disappointment. As a Christian counsellor-in-training, I want to reassure you that questioning doesn’t mean weak faith—it means you’re honestly seeking. And God welcomes honest seekers.

The Bible Reveals God’s Goodness

The goodness of God isn’t just an idea; it’s shown again and again in Scripture:

  • His Character “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”
    — Psalm 107:1
God’s goodness is part of His very nature. He is unchanging, steady, and faithful.
  • His Creation
In Genesis, after each act of creation, God declared it was “good.” The world reflects His goodness, beauty, and order.
  • His Promises “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
    — Jeremiah 29:11
God’s plans for His children always lead toward life and hope.
  • His Greatest Gift
The ultimate proof of His goodness is Jesus Christ. God gave His Son so we could be forgiven and have eternal life (John 3:16).

Experiencing God’s Goodness Personally

Sometimes it’s not enough to read that God is good—we need to feel it. You can experience His goodness when you:

  • Spend time in prayer and feel His peace settle your heart.
  • Recall moments when He carried you through what you thought you couldn’t endure.
  • Notice small blessings in daily life—a sunrise, a word of encouragement, or unexpected provision.

Romans 8:28 reminds us:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

Even when circumstances are painful, God can bring purpose and growth out of them. His goodness doesn’t mean life will always be easy, but it does mean we are never abandoned.

Bringing It All Together

We know God is good because:

  1. The Bible declares it.
  2. Creation reflects it.
  3. His promises assure it.
  4. Jesus proves it.
  5. Our lives bear witness to it.

❤ Takeaway:
God’s goodness isn’t always measured by how easy life feels—it’s seen in His love, His faithfulness, and His unchanging promises. You can trust that even when life feels uncertain, His goodness will hold you steady.

Doubt Is Part of the Human Experience

If you’ve ever felt doubt in your walk with God, you’re not alone. Even strong believers in the Bible wrestled with doubt—like Thomas, who struggled to believe in the resurrection until he saw Jesus for himself (John 20:24–29). Doubt doesn’t mean your faith is broken; it means you’re human. What matters most is what you do with that doubt.

Why Doubt Creeps In

  • Life’s Hardships – When prayers seem unanswered or suffering feels overwhelming.
  • Uncertainty – Not having clear direction or feeling unsure about decisions.
  • Spiritual Attack – The enemy often plants seeds of doubt to shake our faith (Genesis 3:1).
  • Our Own Questions – Wanting to understand everything about God before trusting Him.

What the Bible Says

God is not afraid of your questions. In fact, He invites you to bring them to Him. Jude 1:22 says, “Be merciful to those who doubt.” This shows that God sees doubt with compassion, not condemnation.

James 1:5 also reminds us that if we lack wisdom, we can ask God, and He will give it generously.

Practical Steps to Handle Doubt

  1. Pray Honestly – Tell God exactly what you’re struggling to believe. He already knows your heart.
  2. Stay in Scripture – God’s Word is the anchor that steadies us when our feelings waver.
  3. Look Back on God’s Faithfulness – Keep a journal of answered prayers and past blessings to remind yourself of His presence.
  4. Talk with Other Believers – Sometimes God uses community to strengthen our faith.
  5. Act in Faith – Even small steps of obedience show God you trust Him, and He often strengthens faith as we walk with Him.

A Gentle Reminder

Faith is not the absence of doubt—it’s choosing to trust God even when doubt tries to whisper otherwise. Over time, you’ll see that God is faithful, and your doubts can actually become stepping stones to a stronger faith.

✅ Key Takeaway: Don’t let doubt push you away from God. Let it drive you toward Him. Your questions don’t scare Him—He welcomes them, and He promises to meet you in the middle of them.

Most Christians experience doubt at some point in their lives.

Doubt can arise when:

  • prayers seem unanswered
  • life becomes difficult
  • suffering feels overwhelming
  • circumstances do not make sense
  • or faith feels weak.

Many people assume that having doubts means they have failed God.

But the Bible shows that even faithful believers sometimes struggled with doubt, questions, and uncertainty.

The good news is that God is not intimidated by our questions.

He invites us to bring our doubts to Him and learn to trust Him more deeply.

⚡ What To Do Right Now

  • Bring your doubts honestly to God in prayer
  • Spend time reading God’s Word
  • Remember God’s faithfulness in the past
  • Ask God to strengthen your faith
  • Focus on God’s character rather than your circumstances

👉 Doubt grows when we focus only on our problems, but faith grows when we focus on God

What the Bible Says About Doubt

The Bible takes doubt seriously.

Scripture encourages believers to trust God and rely on His promises rather than their own understanding.

At the same time, the Bible shows that many faithful people wrestled with uncertainty and questions.

God’s response was often to draw them closer to Himself rather than abandon them.

Doubt Does Not Mean God Has Left You

One of the biggest lies doubt tells us is that God is distant.

But scripture teaches that God’s presence does not depend on our feelings.

Isaiah 41:10 says:

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God…”

Even during seasons of uncertainty, God remains faithful.

The Father Who Said, “Help Thou Mine Unbelief”

One of the most encouraging stories in scripture involves a father who desperately wanted Jesus to help his son.

In Mark 9:24 he cried:

“Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”

This man had both:

  • faith
  • and doubt.

Yet he brought both to Jesus.

His example reminds us that struggling with doubt does not mean we should run from God.

It means we should run to Him.

Doubt Often Grows During Difficult Circumstances

Peter experienced this while walking on water.

As long as he focused on Jesus, he walked by faith.

But when he focused on the storm around him, fear and doubt began to grow.

Many believers experience the same struggle.

When circumstances become overwhelming, doubt can begin to replace trust.

This is why scripture repeatedly calls us to keep our eyes on God.

God’s Word Strengthens Faith

Faith grows when believers spend time in God’s Word.

Romans 10:17 says:

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

When doubts arise, God’s promises provide:

  • truth
  • wisdom
  • encouragement
  • and stability.

The more we learn about God’s character, the stronger our faith becomes.

Trust God Even When You Do Not Understand

Many doubts begin because people want answers immediately.

But the Bible teaches that faith often involves trusting God when we cannot see the entire picture.

Proverbs 3:5–6 says:

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

Faith does not mean having every answer.

Faith means trusting the One who does.

How to Overcome Doubt Biblically (Practical Steps)

1. Bring your doubts to God

God already knows your questions.

What to do:

  • Pray honestly
  • Ask God for wisdom
  • Share your fears and concerns

👉 Honest prayer strengthens faith

2. Focus on God’s character

Circumstances change, but God does not.

What to do:

  • Remember God’s faithfulness
  • Study His promises
  • Reflect on how He has helped you before

👉 God’s character is trustworthy

3. Spend time in scripture

Faith grows through God’s Word.

What to do:

  • Read the Bible daily
  • Memorise encouraging verses
  • Meditate on God’s promises

👉 Scripture strengthens weak faith

4. Avoid making decisions based solely on feelings

Feelings are not always reliable.

What to do:

  • Base decisions on biblical truth
  • Seek wisdom from scripture
  • Trust God even when emotions fluctuate

👉 Truth remains steady when feelings change

5. Stay connected to other believers

God often strengthens faith through Christian community.

What to do:

  • Attend church
  • Ask trusted Christians for prayer
  • Seek biblical encouragement

👉 Faith grows stronger when believers support one another

Bible Verses About Doubt (KJV)

Trusting God

Proverbs 3:5–6

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

👉 Trusting God helps overcome doubt

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee…”

👉 God’s presence brings confidence and peace

Bringing Doubt to God

Mark 9:24

“Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”

👉 God welcomes honest faith and honest struggles

Psalm 56:3

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”

👉 Fear can become an opportunity to trust God

Faith Instead of Doubt

James 1:5–6

“Let him ask in faith, nothing wavering…”

👉 God calls believers to trust Him as they seek wisdom

Hebrews 11:6

“Without faith it is impossible to please him…”

👉 Faith is essential in our relationship with God

When Faith Feels Weak

Romans 10:17

“Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

👉 God’s Word strengthens faith

Matthew 14:31

“O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”

👉 Jesus helps believers who struggle with doubt

God’s Faithfulness

Lamentations 3:22–23

“Great is thy faithfulness.”

👉 God’s faithfulness never changes

2 Timothy 2:13

“Yet he abideth faithful.”

👉 God remains faithful even when people struggle

Faith Is Not the Absence of Questions

Many people believe strong faith means never having questions.

The Bible teaches something different.

Faithful believers sometimes:

  • struggled
  • questioned
  • feared
  • and doubted.

The difference was that they continued bringing their concerns to God.

Faith is not pretending questions do not exist.

Faith is choosing to trust God even when every question has not been answered.

Final Thought

The Bible teaches that doubt is a real struggle that many believers experience.

But doubt does not have to control your life.

God invites you to:

  • bring your questions to Him
  • trust His promises
  • seek His wisdom
  • and strengthen your faith through His Word.

You do not need to:

  • hide your struggles
  • pretend your questions do not exist
  • or believe that doubt has disqualified you from God’s love.

You need to:

  • keep seeking God
  • keep trusting His character
  • keep reading His Word
  • and keep walking by faith.

Over time, something begins to happen.

👉 Faith grows stronger
👉 Trust deepens
👉 Fear loses its grip
👉 Confidence in God increases

And instead of allowing doubt to pull you away from God…
you begin learning how to trust Him more deeply, even in seasons of uncertainty.
