Bible Verses About Noah And The Flood
January 24, 2025Bible Verses About Using Your Gifts
January 24, 2025There are times in life where you feel like giving up.
Sometimes it’s because you’re exhausted. Other times it’s because things feel impossible, disappointing, or like nothing is changing no matter how hard you try.
And in those moments, it can be hard to know the difference between:
- quitting too soon
- and recognising something is no longer healthy or right
The Bible talks a lot about perseverance, endurance, and not giving up. But it also shows wisdom, rest, and knowing when something needs to change.
So instead of reducing this to “never quit,” it helps to look at what Scripture actually teaches.
⚡ The Clear Answer
👉 The Bible encourages perseverance, but it does not teach you to stay endlessly trapped in unhealthy, destructive, or pointless situations
There’s a difference between:
- quitting because things are hard
and - stepping away with wisdom and discernment
The Bible calls believers to:
- endurance
- faithfulness
- and wisdom
Not blind exhaustion.
What the Bible Actually Shows About Perseverance
1. Don’t give up just because something is difficult
A lot of worthwhile things:
- take time
- require endurance
- and involve struggle
Epistle to the Galatians 6:9 (KJV)
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
👉 Sometimes growth takes longer than expected
And if you quit immediately when things become difficult, you may walk away before anything has had time to grow.
2. Perseverance builds something in you
Epistle of James 1:2–4 (KJV)
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
👉 Difficulty develops:
- endurance
- maturity
- and stability
That doesn’t mean suffering is enjoyable.
But it does mean difficult seasons are not always pointless.
3. God strengthens people who feel exhausted
Sometimes people feel guilty for wanting to quit, when what they actually are is:
- emotionally drained
- overwhelmed
- burned out
The Bible acknowledges weakness honestly.
Book of Isaiah 40:29–31 (KJV)
“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary…
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…”
👉 God does not ignore exhaustion
He responds to it.
But the Bible Also Shows Wisdom
This is important, because some people stay in situations believing “quitting” is always wrong.
That’s not biblical wisdom either.
1. Jesus Himself stepped away from crowds
Gospel of Luke 5:16 (KJV)
“And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.”
👉 Jesus did not constantly push Himself without rest or boundaries
2. Not every situation should continue forever
The Bible does not teach:
- staying in abuse
- staying in constant destruction
- or remaining in situations that continually pull you away from God
Sometimes wisdom means:
👉 stepping away
👉 changing direction
👉 or recognising something is no longer healthy
3. There’s a difference between perseverance and stubbornness
This is where many people get stuck.
Perseverance says:
👉 “I will continue what is right, even when it’s hard.”
Stubbornness says:
👉 “I will stay no matter how damaging it becomes.”
Those are not the same thing.
Why This Matters
A lot of people live trapped between:
- guilt for wanting to stop
and - fear of giving up too early
So they stay:
- exhausted
- stuck
- and unsure what God actually wants from them
But the Bible doesn’t call you to live without wisdom.
It calls you to:
- stay faithful
- seek discernment
- and remain grounded in truth
That means sometimes:
👉 you keep going through difficulty
And other times:
👉 you recognise something needs to change
What to Come Back To
When you feel like quitting, try not to make decisions purely from exhaustion or emotion.
Instead, slow down and ask:
- Am I simply tired?
- Am I afraid?
- Am I avoiding growth?
- Or is this genuinely unhealthy or no longer right?
Those are very different situations.
Sometimes you need:
👉 rest and encouragement
Other times:
👉 boundaries and change
And wisdom is learning the difference.
How to Respond When You Feel Like Giving Up
1. Don’t make major decisions at your lowest point
Exhaustion distorts perspective.
Give yourself:
- space
- prayer
- and time to think clearly
2. Be honest about what’s actually happening
Sometimes the issue is:
- burnout
- disappointment
- fear
- or unrealistic pressure
Understanding the real problem matters.
3. Ask whether continuing is producing growth or destruction
Hard does not automatically mean wrong.
But ongoing destruction should not be ignored either.
4. Bring the situation honestly before God
You do not need polished prayers.
Tell God:
- what you’re feeling
- what you’re struggling with
- and what you’re unsure about
