Bible Verses About Serving Others
September 3, 2024Bible Verses about Infidelity
September 3, 2024Humility is one of the most important qualities in the Bible.
But humility is often misunderstood.
Some people think humility means:
- having low self-esteem
- thinking badly about yourself
- or making yourself seem worthless.
That is not biblical humility.
The Bible teaches that humility is:
👉 having a right view of yourself before God.
A humble person is not:
- arrogant
- prideful
- self-focused
- or constantly trying to elevate themselves above others.
Instead,
humility involves:
- teachability
- dependence on God
- wisdom
- and a willingness to serve others.
⚡ What To Do Right Now
- Stop making everything about yourself
- Ask God to reveal pride in your heart
- Be willing to listen and learn
- Serve others without needing recognition
- Remember that everything you have ultimately comes from God
👉 Humility grows when pride stops controlling your thinking
What the Bible Says About Humility
The Bible consistently praises humility and warns against pride.
James 4:6 says:
“God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”
This is important because:
👉 pride creates distance from God,
while humility draws people closer to Him.
Throughout scripture,
God often works through people who are:
- humble
- dependent on Him
- and willing to obey.
Pride, on the other hand,
often leads to:
- arrogance
- rebellion
- self-reliance
- and spiritual blindness.
Jesus Is the Greatest Example of Humility
Jesus had:
- authority
- power
- and honour,
yet He consistently demonstrated humility.
Philippians 2:5–8 describes how Jesus:
- humbled Himself
- served others
- and obeyed the Father.
Jesus also said in Matthew 23:12:
“Whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”
This shows that:
👉 God values humility very differently from worldly pride and self-promotion.
Humility Requires Teachability
Pride resists correction.
Humble people are willing to:
- learn
- grow
- listen
- and admit when they are wrong.
Proverbs repeatedly connects wisdom with humility.
Proud people often believe:
- they already know everything
- or do not need correction.
But spiritual growth requires:
👉 teachability.
Humility Does Not Mean Weakness
The world often associates humility with weakness,
but biblical humility is actually:
👉 strength under control.
A humble person can still:
- speak truth
- set boundaries
- lead wisely
- and walk confidently.
Humility simply means:
- not being ruled by ego or pride.
Jesus was humble,
yet He still:
- confronted sin
- spoke truth boldly
- and led with authority.
Pride Can Damage Relationships
Pride often causes:
- conflict
- defensiveness
- selfishness
- unforgiveness
- and division.
Proverbs 13:10 says:
“Only by pride cometh contention…”
Humility helps relationships grow healthier because humble people are more willing to:
- listen
- apologise
- forgive
- and serve others.
